More Than Just a Portrait: A Sunset Session at the Austin Yacht Club

When Zach reached out about his senior session, he didn’t want the standard "pose by a tree" portrait. He wanted something that captured exactly who he is right now: a sailor, a musician, and a high school senior ready to take on the world.
We decided to head to the Austin Yacht Club for a session that was as dynamic as it was personal.
The Perfect Backdrop
There is nothing quite like the Austin skyline and the waters of Lake Travis at sunset. By choosing this location, we were able to lean into that "golden hour" magic that every photographer dreams of. The light hitting the water, combined with the sleek lines of the sailboats, provided a sophisticated, elevated aesthetic that feels quintessentially Austin.
Capturing the Passion: Sailing & Saxophone
What made this session truly special was how we integrated Zach’s two biggest passions.
It’s one thing to stand on a dock, but it’s another to get on board. We captured him in his element—rigging the boats and showcasing his skills on the water. But the real highlight of the evening was when he pulled out his saxophone.
Having him play right there on the deck of a sailboat as the sun dipped below the horizon was, frankly, one of my favorite creative moments this year. The contrast between the metallic, artistic silhouette of the saxophone and the tranquil, vast water created a series of images that feel both cinematic and deeply intimate.
